Happy New Year! Get Healthy and Start Saving Money!

The New Year is upon us - what a great opportunity to start fresh - with a new set of goals and objectives. Whatever you seek - you can surely accomplish. Millions before us have reached goals they never dreamed possible. We can too. Today is the perfect day to make the pledge to ourselves. Make the choice to succeed at any goal you desire - and commit to it.

Just about every Success story has an underlying tale of hardships and challenges. Its reported that Abraham Lincoln had experienced bankruptcy several times before winning the presidency. Henry Ford, Walt Disney, Donald Trump - all incredibly successful and all overcame huge financial challenges. The road to success - in whatever goals we seek - is often filled with speed-bumps in the form of huge challenges.

The good news is - the lessons from history all point to a few immutable truths. Hard work and persistence can indeed pay huge dividends. Setting goals and crafting a plan to reach our objectives leads to success beyond one's wildest dreams. Action - in the form of lots of concentrated, hard work is critical. Without hard work and persistence even the best laid plans often fall short.

Commit to yourself. Decide what you want and make the commitment to take the steps to get it. Eliminate fear and worry - they are useless in terms of your goal. Stay positive and seek out positive minded friends and supporters. Avoid negative people and naysayers. The choice is yours. You own it. No one can take away your power to choose! Choose to succeed! And do whatever it takes to get there.

Do you need a mentor? Or support group? Maybe the advice of others who have reached a measure of success could help you along the way. Why re-invent the wheel? Take counsel from those who have been there. Learn the lesson history offers us all. Libraries are filled with the autobiographies and success stories of others. Use that free knowledge to your advantage.

Focus on what you want every day. Make time to work towards your goal each day. You get to choose! You can join the winners club. You can have more fun. More money. Better health. Better relationships. A better looking body. Improved fitness. Get healthy and start saving money. The choice is up to each of us.

Happy New Year. May all your years be Happy, Healthy and filled with Success!

Fitness is for everyone

The harder you play, the better you will perform at work or in school. And the harder and more intelligently you study or work, the more you will enjoy your play!

There are many health benefits to being physically active. Moderate-intensity activity helps you control your weight, feel great, and perhaps lower your chances of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes.

What is physical activity? Why be physically fit?

Physical activity is beneficial when it is of moderate or vigorous intensity: hand-washing your car, playing soccer with your children, going for a swim, or even riding a bike. You get physically fit by being active on a regular basis. Being fit is what allows you and your family to work and play in comfort.

Is physical activity for everyone?

Absolutely! Everyone in the family can be physically active. Find fun activities that easily fit into your regular family life.

Some ideas to help you start moving more:

Walk with your family. If the weather is nice - enjoy a long bike ride!
Dance ( Dance like no one is watching! )
Get on your TreadClimber or rowing machine for 20 minutes before the rest of the family wakes up!
Play basketball, hockey, tennis, or volleyball with your friends.

Physical activity: How much, how often, how intense?

Adults should engage in moderate-intensity physical activity, above usual activity, for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week. For added benefits, increase your total activity time and the intensity of your workout.

You may need up to an hour a day to prevent unhealthy weight gain. If you have
successfully lost weight, you may need a little longer to maintain your ideal weight. Children and teenagers need at least 60 minutes of activity on most days to feel good, grow well, and maintain a healthy weight.

Physical fitness benefits everyone!

Get your Holiday Exercise in the Comfort of Home!

Finding time to exercise can be a challenge this month. Holiday parties, our children's school activities and Christmas shopping can nibble away at our schedules. Add in the Holiday treats we find so inviting and our waistlines can start inching in the wrong direction!

That rich and creamy glass of eggnog blew away many a calorie chart last night alone! And the delicious Holiday meals - Turkeys and Hams. Prime rib and thick, juicy steaks put even more calories on our plates! Who can turn down a delicious slice of coffee cake with a nice cup of piping hot java?

As I write these warm thoughts it is a frigid 10 degrees in our neck of the woods. We still have ice and snow-covered streets to make our way around. Jogging on the ice and snow-packed side sidewalks is not sounding too healthy today!

Many fitness buffs are enjoying the benefits of their very own home gyms. Makes sense. Why not turn that extra room into your own little fitness center. Or put a treadclimber and some free weights in that corner of the basement you don't seem to use much anymore! How about a rowing machine along that wall? Add a TV and DVD and you can enjoy some of your favorite entertainment while you peel away the pounds!

Save money and your precious time while you continue getting in shape right in the comfort ( and warmth ) of home! If you want to shed a few more pounds before the New Year arrives - no worries. Just hop on that exercise bike and burn some Holiday calories before the little ones even wake up! Health and Fitness experts agree - the quickest way to lose weight is with plenty of exercise.

So enjoy the Holidays and all the wonderful parties and food knowing that you can exercise and lose weight fast!

Staying Healthy over the Holidays

Christmas time is such a wonderful time of the year! So good, in fact, that many of us celebrate with our favorite foods. Lots of good, rich food. Tastes great. And some of our favorites seem to have very little nutritional value. Add in a more sedentary lifestyle sitting behind that desk and far too little time exercising, the pounds just seem to pile on.

Luckily there are natural and healthy ways to lose weight fast! Getting in shape fast is a goal one can reasonably expect to reach. Just how fast is entirely up to each of us! We get to make the choices. Choosing to eat more sensibly, exercise and lose weight fast. I don't expect to lose my pot belly in a month. But two or three months is certainly a realistic target.

How much exercise is needed to make a difference in your weight depends on the amount and type of activity, and on how much you eat. Aerobic exercise burns body fat. A medium-sized adult would have to walk more than 30 miles to burn up 3,500 calories, the equivalent of one pound of fat. Although that may seem like a lot, you don’t have to walk the 30 miles all at once. Walking a mile a day for 30 days will achieve the same result. I think I'll strive for three to five miles each day! And get in some weight training to start building muscles.

If you consume 100 calories a day more than your body needs, you will gain approximately 10 pounds in a year. You could take that weight off, or keep it off, by doing 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily. The experts concur - the combination of exercise and healthy eating is the surest way to start getting in shape fast.

The choice is yours. Choose to adopt healthier habits. Choose to have more fun playing sports you enjoy! Make the choice to schedule and then religiously guard your daily exercise. The Choice to look better and feel more energized. To enjoy much better health eating healthy foods!

Have More Holiday Fun

For many the Holidays are such a wonderful, fun-filled time of year. Remember the excitement and anticipation you felt as a child? These last few weeks before Christmas can bring on some added stress. Don't let yourself get caught up by stress. Keep the Holidays fun. Enjoy time with family, friends, and loved ones!

If you find yourself starting to worry or experience even the slightest stress - take a stress break. Get outside and enjoy nature for even just a few minutes. If you're unable to escape to the great outdoors - even momentarily - close your eyes, breathe slow deep breaths for a couple minutes. Now think about a place you enjoy - preferably somewhere outdoors. Picture the sights and visualize the smells and how it feels to be in your favorite nature spot.

Picture the colors. Feel the sand between your toes. Imagine the surf coming in. Feel the warm breeze coming off the ocean.

You get the picture.

Another effective and lasting stress reliever is exercise. Exercise of any kind can greatly reduce stress and elevate your mood! Even if you only have a few minutes. Get away from what you're doing and go for a brief walk. Get your mind off the source of your stress and instead focus on something pleasant while you walk. Enjoy the great outdoors. Focus on your breathing.

If you have time get in some more exercise. Spend half an hour walking or running. Get on your treadmill or bike. Take in a yoga class or pilates. Set your mind on happy thoughts. Decide to be happy. Get determined to eliminate as much as possible the source of your stress. Or learn to handle it. Exercise is a time-honored way to get rid of stress.

Enjoy these last few days before the Holidays. Get together with friends and loved ones and have fun! Take in a movie or a Christmas play! Volunteer to help someone less fortunate than yourself. And be selfish - make a pact with yourself to get in some exercise each day!

If you've been away from the exercise habit for a while, today is the perfect day to start getting in shape fast. Devote just 30 minutes each day to yourself and exercise. Try a new sport. Have fun while you're getting in shape! Get outside and play with the little ones. Or go for a nice bike ride with someone you enjoy! Take a long, brisk paced walk with one of your favorite friends.

You can reduce your stress, and enjoy life more! Make exercise a habit and you'll be hooked! Have loads more fun and enjoy life making healthy choices. And be sure to Have Happy Holidays!

Building Muscles with protein

Our bodies need fuel to help us build muscles and lose weight. Protein is the fuel. When we exercise we use the protein and build or sustain muscles! Many of us simply don't get enough protein to fuel our workouts.

Here are some tips for including more protein in your healthy eating choices:

Go lean with protein:

Start with a lean choice:
The leanest beef cuts include round steaks and roasts (round eye, top round, bottom round, round tip), top loin, top sirloin, and chuck shoulder and arm roasts.

The leanest pork choices include pork loin, tenderloin, center loin, and ham.

Choose extra lean ground beef. The label should say at least “90% lean”. You may be able to find ground beef that is 93% or 95% lean.

Buy skinless chicken parts, or take off the skin before cooking.

Boneless skinless chicken breasts and turkey cutlets are the leanest poultry choices.

Choose lean turkey, roast beef, ham, or low-fat luncheon meats for sandwiches instead of luncheon meats with more fat, such as regular bologna or salami.

Choose fish more often for lunch or dinner. Look for fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fresh-water salmon, trout, and herring. ( Try to avoid farm raised fish - they tend to have more unhealthy chemicals. )
Some ideas are:

* Salmon steak or filet
* Salmon loaf
* Grilled or baked trout

Remember - you need daily protein to fuel muscle growth and development. Try to include some protein in your daily choices and keep building muscles!
